Riding
Instruction
For
beginning through intermediate riders
Trained in
techniques developed by Sally Swift, founder of
Centered Riding®, Karen accepts students from novice to intermediate
levels and children to geriatrics. The definition of "riding" a
horse is much more than being a successful passenger. It is
important to understand the nature of the horse, to identify how
to remain safe when handling horses and to apply basic
horsemanship techniques. Once those basics are mastered,
learning how to balance on a moving animal is the first step to
safe riding. The next step is to learn to apply the various aids
and how those aids are essential in successful communication
with the horse. From there, transition into performance
activities is seamless. Lesson horses are available. |

Custom
Saddle Fitting
Using
the
Port Lewis Impression Pad
Comfort
for you horse and yourself is paramount in the horse/human
relationship. To obtain that comfort, a well-balanced platform -
the saddle - that fits the horse and rider must be identified.
It is generally a simple process to determine when one is too
wide or too narrow and immediately rule that saddle out. But,
how do you know if the saddle you have chosen is creating pain
when the horse is in movement? By using the
Port Lewis Impression Pad, an assessment is possible while
the horse is performing all gaits. In addition, it is important
to identify horse and rider imbalances. Limb length
discrepancies, inflexibility, and poor kinesthetic awareness of
the horse or rider can severely compromise comfort and
performance. |
